Amilcar Navarro is a documentary filmmaker and director of photography living in Brooklyn, NY. After a summer on the set of Edward James Olmos’ American Me at the age of 16 he fell in love with film. At the age of seventeen he began an internship with Seattle Grip and Lighting, and spent his weekends working on short films and local commercials. Upon moving to New York in 2001, Navarro worked in the commercial photography industry. In 2007 he worked for world renowned documentary film maker Stephanie Black (Life in Debt, H2 Worker) on her latest feature film Africa Unite, returning to his original roots in film-making. He then worked with Sebastian Junger and Tim Heatherington on the Academy Award nominated documentary Restrepo as an assistant editor.
